There are plenty of higher ed podcasts out there, but most focus on broad trends, big headlines, or surface-level commentary. What’s often missing are the authentic voices of the people who actually move things forward on campus every day.

That’s why Fritz Vandover, Kelvin Bentley, and Kevin Shriner created the GSD Podcast. Collectively, we bring more than 80 years of lived experience across teaching, administration, policy, technology, and leadership. We’ve built programs, sat in cabinet meetings, navigated layoffs, and wrestled with the realities of enrollment cliffs, accreditation, and innovation fatigue.

We launched this podcast because:

• Higher ed does a poor job telling its own story. For decades, institutions didn’t need to explain their value — now they do, and we want to help shift that narrative.
• The real doers deserve the mic. Not just presidents or keynote speakers, but the dedicated professionals (faculty, admissions officers, instructional designers, institutional researchers, and more) who make higher ed function.
• Early- and mid-career professionals need straight talk. We’ve been through the pivots, the reorganizations, and the politics — and we’re here to share what we’ve learned along the way.
• This sector is at a crossroads. From AI to shifting demographics, the old playbook doesn’t work anymore. It’s time to talk about what actually does.
